Read MoreCaring for Bearded Dragons 101
Caring for a bearded dragon—like any pet—takes some time and effort. If you are totally new to bearded dragons and wondering where to start, this blog will be a trusted companion on your reptile adventure.
If you’re on the fence about getting a bearded dragon and you want to know more about the care requirements, here are some key questions to consider:
- Where will you keep your dragon’s terrarium? (Their enclosures aren’t exactly tiny or compact.)
- Are you in it for the long haul? (Bearded dragons can live ten years or more when well cared for.)
- Are you ok with handling live insects on a daily basis? (Pellet food and freeze-dried insects are not good for your dragon.)
- Do you have time to clean the tank? (Spot clean daily, deeper cleans weekly/monthly.)
- Is there a good reptile or exotic animal vet near you or within reasonable driving distance? (This is necessary for annual vet visits and in case your dragon gets sick or injured.)
This bearded dragon care blog will help you dive deeper into the above topics and more. Learn about your dragon’s dietary needs, potential health issues, surprising behaviors, and even how they like to play. Together we’ll make sure your bearded dragon is receiving the very best care.
Are Bearded Dragons Easy to Take Care Of?
Bearded dragons can be considered a beginner to intermediate reptile. They are not necessarily hard to take care of, but they do require a level of involvement and setup that is beyond what other traditional beginner reptiles require (like leopard geckos). If you are interested in reptiles and find bearded dragons fascinating, they can make wonderful companions. The trick is learning the basics and expanding your knowledge from there.
Are Bearded Dragons Hard to Take Care Of?
Whether bearded dragons are hard or easy to take care of depends on your willingness to dive in and learn everything you can about bearded dragon care. Putting together a terrarium for the first time might be hard—but once you understand heating, lighting, and substrate requirements, it’s not so intimidating. Buying live insects and feeding them to your dragon for the first time might be a little weird and different—but it will become second nature before too long.
So, are bearded dragons easy to take care of? Or hard to take care of? It depends. Regardless, if you love animals (especially reptiles) and you’re dedicated to giving your beardie an awesome life, then the responsibilities of caring for a bearded dragon are totally worth it!
